The best travel tripods in 2018: 10 great stable mates

11/20/2018

You can get some of your best photos on the road, but then you want to keep your kit to a minimum and leave the Best Tripod for Mirrorless bulky at home, do not you?

But do you really want to risk the blurry photos of unique photographic opportunities? Of course not! This is the case if you need a specially designed backpacking tripod that is small enough to pack and strong enough to keep the camera quiet during night shots, selfies and a beautiful interior.

UPDATE: We have redesigned our guide to include not only normal tripods that can be folded down for suitcase sizes but also smaller tripods that fit in a shoulder bag or backpack. We even covered you if you use a smartphone!

We start our list of lightweight tripod for backpacking specially modified for travel. To reduce storage space, the best travel tripods have upward pivoting feet, so that the feet cover the head and are cut about 20 cm from the transport length.

We also introduce smaller models designed for small wrinkles and low weights. Some are just the size of a drink bottle when folded.

If it's still too much, you should at least imagine a table best budget travel tripod. These can support the weight of a small SLR camera or a mirrorless camera and are ideal for emergencies. You can put it on a table (uh, of course), on a wall or even on the floor if you do not fear a low-angle shot.

So, there is a lot of choices. Read on for our selection of the best travel tripods ...

1. Benro GoPlus Travel FGP18A + B0

Material: Aluminium | Extended height: 165cm | Folded height: 46cm | Weight: 1.95kg | Feet: Pads + spikes | Leg sections: 4 | Max load (legs, head): 10kg, 8kg

The Benro GoPlus is as good as any conceivable box on our wish list. It has a modest folding length and a generous working height, combined with a high load capacity. It is one of only two tripods in this list to have a pivoting central column, which is better implemented than the Kenro-carbon fiber tripod vs aluminum because it allows a range of locking angles in small increments on a complete arc of 180 degrees. Bubble levels are mounted on the tripod platform and the tripod head for easy levelling. One leg can be unscrewed to be used as an autonomous monopod. It is a fantastic tripod and our best recommendation if you have enough space to pack it.

2. Kenro Karoo Ultimate Travel

Material: Carbon fibre | Extended height: 168cm | Folded height: 48cm | Weight: 1.95kg | Feet: Retractable spikes | Leg sections: 4 | Max load (legs, head): 10kg, 8kg

The Kenro Karoo zomei z818 review Ultimate Travel has the same weight as the above Benro and the same maximum carrying capacity. Another similarity to the Benro is that you can rotate the central Kenro column to use it as a horizontal arrow. However, the Kenro swing mechanism is bulkier in design and does not allow you to lock the column at different angles, whether vertical or horizontal. The Kenro again has an Arca Swiss compatible quick release plate and independently adjustable locking, swivel and friction buttons. Overall, the Benro could beat the trip of the journey, but the Kenro Karoo is a more versatile tripod with a very good stiffness at all altitudes. The Karoo takes the crown for an innovative design and comprehensive benefits.

My Travel Tripod

"I have this tripod and found it was not that stable with my D7100, Check out carbon fibre much stronger and steadier. I purchased Carbon fibre after this one.
